George Bowser and Rick Blue have been writing and performing music and comedy together since 1978. Colorectal Surgeons around the world are familiar with them through the song 'Working Where the Sun Don't Shine', which was first heard on 'Madly Off In All Directions' in 1997.

They have appeared frequently at the Just For Laughs comedy

festival, and can often be seen in Television shows compiled from those appearances. They will appear again at the festival in 2008.

They are currently working on a follow-up to “The 4 Anglos of the Apocalypse,’ a comic perspective on the last 30 years of politics in Quebec, narrated by film-maker and humorist Josh Freed, with music by Bowser and Blue and cartoons by award-winning cartoonist Terry Mosher (Aislin). This has been presented to sold-out houses at Montreal’s Centaur Theatre three times since December 2006, and in 2008 highlights from the show were presented at Toronto’s IdeaCity festival.

The sequel, “The 25th Century Belongs to Canada,” will be presented at Theatre Lac Brome in the summer of 2008.

They have recorded with Supertramp’s Rick Davies, and with Kimberley Rew, Vince de la Cruz, Alex Cooper and Katrina Leskanich of Katrina and the Waves. They also recorded a song with Blair and the late Gary MacLean, of MacLean and MacLean.

They have written and appeared in many full-length Theatre shows, most recently the musical 'The Paris of America,' which ran for seven sold-out weeks at Montreal's Centaur Theatre in 2003. Previous shows, including the smash hits “Blokes” and “Blokes Deux,” are listed elsewhere on this site.

Bowser and Blue were featured in the CBC-TV broadcast of “Mid-Life Crazy,” with host Cathy Jones, taped at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in 2005. In the fall of 2004, they toured Performing Arts Centres and Community Theatres in Alberta, and brought their show to Ontario theatres later in 2005, with a subsequent tour of Atlantic Canada in early 2006.

In 2003 they collaborated with Terry Mosher to produce 'The Illustrated Canadian Songbook', which comes with a companion CD. The Christmas TV special 'Two Nuts Roasting On An Open Fire' was nominated for a Gemini.

They have recorded 10 CDs on their own 'You Guys' label, and four for Montreal’s Justin Time label.

Bowser and Blue provided the music for the NFB animated film “Scant Sanity,” by John Weldon, and for the TV show “Misguided Angels.” The instrumental guitar music for that show, “Red Guitars,” is what you hear in the auditorium between shows at B&B concerts.

George Bowser

George was born in Sussex, England, in 1950. He was educated privately at Tonbridge, which is still a private school for boys, where young males sleep in rows of iron beds that sag in the middle, and are forced to take cold showers and go to chapel a lot in exchange for a pretty good classical education and lots of rugger.

After a short spell with a band called ‘People Like Us,’ which featured Roger Hodgson on guitar, George attended Oxford University. He then decided that all this good fortune was bad for his character, and immigrated to Canada in 1970 - just in time for the October crisis, which he said was not his fault. He played lead guitar with several Montreal bands, including ‘Wizard,’ before joining with Blue to create the legendary, but not mythical, Bowser and Blue. George has received formal musical training on the clarinet, trombone and piano, all of which he has ignored, preferring to play the bass, the guitar and now mostly the 12-string guitar.

Since 2005, George has been a city councillor in his home town of Westmount, Quebec. For some years before his election, George contributed humorous columns to the Westmount Examiner.

Ricky Blue

Ricky Blue has an MA in English from Concordia University, and was involved in bands and media music in Montreal for over twenty years. In 1981 he won an international "Clio" award for excellence in advertising. He has performed naked on radio and television. His life had no real meaning, however, until he began to play with Bowser and Blue. Rick plays guitar and harmonica, and sings in a rather pleasant baritone when George will let him.

Rick has written ‘Campbell’s Sutra,’ a Scottish sex comedy, which will be seen at Hudson Village Theatre in the Summer of 2008, and ‘Let’s Be Frank’, a musical based on a Frank Sinatra’s music, which will be staged at Theatre Lac Brome in the Summer of 2008. He has also taught communication for the Police Technology department of John Abbott College, and writes regular columns for the West Island Chronicle. Rick claims to be one of the first baby boomer children conceived and born in Liverpool after the second world war, and few can be bothered to dispute this
